Girls’ Football County Finals

Today, our girls’ football team travelled to Fleet to compete in the Hampshire County Finals, proudly representing the New Forest.

After the tournament was postponed last month due to heavy rain at Stoneham—right in the middle of play—we resumed the competition at a new venue, building on what had already been a strong start. Having secured a place in the top tier, the girls entered another group stage determined to continue their momentum. They began brilliantly, playing with energy, confidence, and attacking intent. Their composure on the ball and teamwork were evident throughout, allowing them to control games effectively. After a series of strong performances, they progressed to the semi-finals with 8 points (2 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss).

In the semi-final, they faced Hook and Warsash in a thrilling and closely contested match. Neither side could be separated, leading to a penalty shootout. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our day, and we narrowly missed out to the eventual tournament winners.

The team then competed in the 3rd/4th place playoff against Heatherside. Despite a dominant display and creating numerous chances, they were denied repeatedly by an outstanding performance from the opposition goalkeeper. A goal conceded on the counterattack proved decisive, and time ran out before we could find an equaliser.

Finishing 4th in the county marks our second-best result as a school—an outstanding achievement.

The girls demonstrated exceptional skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. You did yourselves and Orchard incredibly proud—congratulations! 👏⚽

County Netball Finals:

On Monday, our Year 6 Netball team travelled to Embley School to compete in the Hampshire Netball Finals, facing 22 of the top qualifying teams from across the county and proudly representing the New Forest.

After a steady start, the team used their opening match to find their rhythm, narrowly losing to a strong Hook and Warsash side. However, they responded immediately with determination and teamwork, going on an impressive seven-game winning streak. This excellent run saw them progress into the top tier of the competition, finishing the group stages with an outstanding record of 8 wins and just 2 defeats.

Their success secured a place in the semi-finals, where they were drawn once again against Hook and Warsash. In a fantastic display of growth and resilience, the team turned the tables on their earlier opponents, working brilliantly together to secure a hard-fought 1–0 victory in a tight and highly competitive match.

Reaching the final was a huge achievement and the team gave everything in their last game. Despite a strong performance, they finished as runners-up after a 7–4 defeat. Bringing home the silver medal, this marks Orchards’ best ever netball result and is an achievement the whole team should be incredibly proud of.

Well done to everyone involved – you were truly outstanding!

Football Tournament Report

Today, our superb Boys’ and Girls’ Year 5 & 6 Football Teams travelled a short distance to Staplewood Training Ground, home of Southampton FC, to compete in the Southampton Regional Finals of the Utilita Cup and Premier League Primary Stars tournaments.

It was a fantastic day of football, showcasing the incredible talent from schools across Southampton. With the winners earning the chance to represent Southampton FC at the Southern Area Finals, the stakes could not have been higher.

Both competitions followed a modern, Champions League–style group format. Each team played five randomly selected opponents from an eight-team league table, with the top four progressing to the knockout stages. Semi-finals and finals would then decide the overall champions.

Girls’ Team

Our Girls’ team made an excellent start to the tournament, recording two wins, two draws and one defeat in the group stage. This strong performance secured 4th place and a well-deserved spot in the semi-finals.

In the semi-final, the girls faced St Francis in a closely contested and exciting match. Despite a huge effort and a determined performance, they narrowly lost 1–0 to the eventual tournament winners.

The girls then competed in the 3rd/4th place playoff against Hook with Warsash. After a tense 0–0 draw, the match was decided by penalties. Orchard held their nerve, with a brilliantly taken spot-kick from Olivia and a superb save from Isla in goal sealing the win.

An outstanding achievement — 3rd place in Southampton. Congratulations, girls, we are incredibly proud of you.

Boys’ Team

The Boys’ team took a few games to settle into the tournament but soon found their rhythm, playing some excellent football and controlling matches with confidence. They finished the group stage with two wins, one draw and two losses, placing 4th and securing a semi-final spot.

In the semi-final, the boys faced Crescent. After a hard-fought 0–0 draw, the match went to penalties. Calm finishes from Spencer, Brody and Jenson, combined with an excellent save from Ben in goal, sent Orchard through to the final against fellow New Forest school, Bartley.

The final was a true spectacle and a fitting end to a high-quality tournament. Both teams played with immense spirit, determination and attacking intent. After going a goal down, our boys showed great resilience to level the match at 1–1, but heartbreak followed in the final moments as Bartley managed to score a late winner.

Congratulations to Bartley, and we wish them the very best in the next round. Our boys could not have given any more — they represented themselves and our school brilliantly. 2nd place in Southampton is an incredible achievement. Well done, boys!

We are incredibly proud of both teams, well done teams!

Remember football lunchtime clubs Tuesday (boys) & Friday (girls) with more football opportunities coming up very soon.
