Uniform

At Orchard Junior we believe it is important to dress smartly.

There is a pride in appearance and a tidy image is presented to visitors and the community.

Skoolkit are our uniform provider for embroidered items (click link): Skoolkit

The Department for Education set out that they… strongly encourage schools to have a uniform as it can play a key role in:

  • promoting the ethos of a school

  • providing a sense of belonging and identity

  • setting an appropriate tone for education

We believe that our uniform takes on board these aspects and is affordable to families.

Main Uniform: The main part of our uniform is the bottle green top, available as a sweatshirt or cardigan. Embroidered tops with the school logo are available from Skoolkit.

A plain white or yellow polo shirt must be worn by all children.  Embroidered polo shirts with the school logo are available from Skoolkit.

Trousers, shorts or skirts should be dark grey in colour.

Skirts must be at least knee length, and shorts should be to just above the knee.

Plain, sensible and sturdy black shoes with no colour or visual logos should be worn. Sling backs, sandals and open toed shoes or shoes without backs are considered inappropriate footwear on safety grounds in school and therefore unacceptable.

PE Kit Requirements: On PE days only, children must come to school wearing their school jumper/ cardigan (not a random hoodie/ sweatshirt) on top of a plain white t-shirt.  Depending on the weather, the children must wear either dark plain shorts (again to just above the knee) or dark plain tracksuit bottoms. Trainers are to be worn through the day. Your child can bring a change of sweater for use during the PE lesson, but, again, this must be dark and plain in colour.

Jewellery: With the exception of watches and single-stud gold earrings, no other jewellery must be worn. Earrings, and all watches, must be removed or taped for PE lessons. No make-up of any type is allowed.

Haircuts: Children are expected to maintain their hair at a suitable length and style: no shorter than grade 2 with no shaved areas or tramlines. Children should not use dye in their hair. Streaks of colours, bleached hair or other extremes of styles, including hair extensions, are not considered acceptable.  All hairstyles must conform to Health and Safety rules, so long hair must be tied back for all PE, DT and other curriculum lessons as appropriate.

Hair accessories: must be small, plain, practical (i.e. they are actually holding hair back).

Second hand uniform: if you are interested in acquiring any good quality second hand uniform please visit the Orchard Mums & Dads Facebook page (please note this is not run by the school, but by parents for parents).

Financial difficulties: We aim to make our uniform as affordable as possible to our families. If you are genuinely finding it difficult to fund uniform, please contact the school office in confidence who may be able to provide support.

PLEASE ENSURE ALL ITEMS OF SCHOOL UNIFORM, INCLUDING PE KIT,

ARE FULLY NAMED WITH PERMANENT INK.

THE SCHOOL CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOST OR MISSING ITEMS (REGARDLESS OF CAUSE) BE THEY UNIFORM OR ANY OTHER ITEM.

Please be aware that at the end of each term, unclaimed and unnamed uniform/ other items of clothing will be sorted and either kept as spares by the School or given to charity.
