WELCOME TO YEAR SIX
6CS Class Teacher
(Thursday and Friday)
Mrs Simmons will still be on maternity leave at the start of the year.
Welcome to Year 6! Your time has finally come to become the oldest in the school and to become fantastic role models for the rest of the Orchard Junior children! We can’t wait to get to know you more and to begin our exciting journey together. Year 6 holds so many brilliant projects, trips and memories and we can’t wait to get started! This week is all about us finding out about you and hopefully you finding out a bit about us!
The school is looking a little bare as there hasn’t been much work going up from the children! We are hoping to change all of that this week. We are setting you 3 tasks that we need you to complete for our new year 6 classrooms! They will form our classroom displays as we re-enter the school and will hopefully put us all at ease as we prepare for our exciting journey as Year 6 together. There will also be an extra ICT project if you want to have a go, it will also help us find out a little more about you.
Your first task involves our Orchard Tree! THE WORDS !
Pick a word from the tree that means something to you. Write the word in the middle of the leaf. You can use bubble writing, block writing or any other type of writing you like. Then you will need to create art work around the word to symbolise what the word means to you. See the example. I picked Safe! I feel safe at school – to symbolise safe I turned the ‘s’ into a padlock and put a heart around the whole word! Click on the leaf outline to print one or you can draw your own.

What has your lockdown looked like? We would like a picture of you which captures a positive time time during lockdown. Did you learn or start a new hobby? Did you get a new pet? Did you learn something new? We would like to see a picture of you doing something during lockdown and would like you to create a speech bubble to accompany it! It will be great to share experiences and understand what lockdown was like for you!
PERSONALISED FINGER PRINT
Your third task is for us to find out all about you as a person. We want you to create a finger print that is unique to you. Along each line of the finger print we want you to explain everything you can about yourself. Things to try and include:
Who’s in your family
Pets or animals you like
Things you are good at
Hobbies you do
Subjects you enjoy or don’t enjoy
Use the oval outline to help you create your finger print, then you can choose to write in rainbow, like the example, or you can just use pen and then colour your finger print.
If you still have questions, you can email them to us and will try to reply as soon as possible! Your teachers have also been busy talking to your Year 5 teachers, so after this we will have a really great picture of you all and how you best learn.
Extra ICT task: Why don’t you create a PowerPoint about yourselves and send to your new class teacher. You could include pictures and titles about your hobbies or interests. We look forward to seeing what you create!
Your teachers have also created a PowerPoint to help you get to know them more. Usually we would have a whole morning together to get to know each other and ask questions. Hopefully this PowerPoint will help you feel more at ease about starting Year 6 with your new teacher.
If you are like us, and can’t sit still for too long and get bored easily we have included some information about our first project back. You might like to do some research or gather some information which will help you in September. The first text we are looking at in September is ‘The Last Wild’ by Piers Torday. You might like to read it over the summer.
Our first project is – Eco Warriors. We will be looking at renewable energy sources; ways to protect the environment and practical ways we can do our bit to help the environment!
Our first Science topic is space! Do you know your planets? Do you know the order that they sit in the solar system? Maybe do a bit of research to impress your teachers when we return in September!
You can send your work to your new teacher using the new class emails below. Tasks you have done by hand can be photographed and sent across; tasks which were completed on the computer can be attached to an email and sent over too. If you have any questions about September you can email these to your new teacher! Next year is going to be amazing! We can’t wait for September - so we can get started with our Year 6 adventure together!
