Week beginning: 29 june 2020

This week our science focus is Teeth! We will learn about their functions and how we can keep them clean and healthy. This will spill into our guided reading and Literacy work too. You can use the information from all three subjects to help and develop your understanding. We look forward to seeing what the children create and learn. You can still upload photos onto the blog to you’re your classmates what you have been up to.

This week, you will be set three new Literacy and Numeracy tasks. You can do these on any three days in the week; do what suits you and your family. There will be Guided Reading, Times Tables, Spellings and Mental Maths to keep up with throughout the week. Each week, you will also be offered four other lessons; this week it is science, PSHE, PE and ICT. You can decide to do all of these or just some of these. Do the ones you enjoy the most. For those of you who want to extend your learning even further, there is an extension project which you will have 5 weeks to complete. How you present it is up to you- we look forward to seeing how you decide to present your project. Don’t rush this one; it is designed for those of you who are really willing to dig a little deeper and take your time researching and presenting your work. Good luck!

This week we will be working towards creating a set of instructions on how to brush and floss your teeth for a child to follow. We will be looking at bossy verbs to help us create a set of instructions for a child to follow.

Day 1:

Task 1 - Please do your spelling test on last week's words (silent letters). Practice and look over this week's words (homophones)  Reminder: Bright sparks spelling = phonic group. Whizz kids spellings = main class spellings.

Task 2 - Grammar Task: Watch the Bitesize video on imperative verbs first.  Have a go at the word search to find bossy verbs. You will need to use bossy verbs for your instructions on day 3. In the second part, you will be looking at the different features of a set of instructions and annotate them onto the sheet.

Day 2: Today you will be gathering all the information you need to write a set of instructions on how to brush and floss your teeth. In order to answer the questions correctly you need to watch the video a few times.

Day 3: Today is the day you get to create your instructions. Use your notes and all of the bossy verbs you found to help you create a set of instructions on how to brush and floss your teeth. Don’t forget to share your instructions with your class.

This week we will be looking at money.  You will be looking closely at the value of coins and notes. You will need to practise making the same amount but with different coins and understand how many pennies are in a pound to help you convert money amounts.

Day 1: Look through the pounds and pence PowerPoint first.

Task 1 – Make amounts using different coins and match amounts to prices

Task 2- Problem Solving showing different amounts

Day 2: Converting pounds to pence. Watch and complete activities on Bitesize.

Task 1 -   Pence to pound machines

Task 2 – Complete money grids

Day 3: Read each question carefully before solving the money problems.

EXTRA: There are 2 dos on Purple Mash, more money problems.

other tasks to do

Here are some other tasks for you to do as and when you get the chance.

PSHE: This week we really want to try and help you continue to think positively. Home-learning is hard and not seeing friends and family can be tricky too but in every situation we can try to find a positive. Mrs Clothier has made a video for you to watch first. As part of our healthy mind part of the topic we are going to try and turn negative thoughts into positive ones! Have a go at helping the children in the examples think positively and then think of your own negatives at the moment and try turning them into positives - click on the smiley balloons for your task! Together we can get through this!

Science: This week in science we will learn all about teeth. We will look at the different teeth we have in our mouths and what they are used for. We will also think about ways we can keep our teeth healthy. Once you have worked your way through the PowerPoint and clicked on all the links, have a go at the crossword to prove your understanding - it's behind the smile!

ICT: 2 do Coding on Purple Mash.  Princess and the Frog - can you help the frog turn back into a prince?

We would like to you to become Scientists!  Can you think like a scientist and carry out an investigation?

Decide upon a question to investigate about the human body, gather your research by asking relevant people, record and present you findings. Click on the Scientist for more help and guidance - good luck!
